Citizen Science - Gopher Tortoise

An advanced Florida Master Naturalist will be in the park to share information on gopher tortoises. Discover fascinating facts about this ancient species! Discussions will touch on behaviors, anatomy, and fun facts. Participants may hold and see the shells of specimens that once lived within Koreshan State Park. The second half of the session will focus on an app that assists FWC with monitoring the activity of the burrows in real time. A walk to spot, identify and use the app to practice and contribute to the FWC data base on gopher tortoise burrow locations will occur. Bring your cell phone so that during the session you can download the app, practice, and experience the contributions made as a citizen scientist. Session will start in the Art Hall in the Historic Settlement.
